The Orange Revolution
not only showed the world that Ukrainians desired a democratic nation ruled by law, but that
they also wanted to be Ukrainian. In the past, due to foreign occupation, a Ukrainian could not
be oneself. This always had tragic consequences.
Taras Shevchenko wrote, "Only in your own house will you find truth, strength and freedom". In December 2004, Ukrainians heeded these words. As a result the world witnessed what it meant to be Ukrainian. |
